Chandler Kauffman is an award winning filmmaker based in New York City and LA. Born and raised in Philadelphia, Chandler graduated from NYU’s Tisch School of The Arts, and began working as a gaffer in the lighting department on films, TV and commercials, while still making his own films and eventually moving into directing and shooting full time.
As a commercial director Chandler was selected as one of ten notable new directors by The Commercial Film Producers of Europe for his work as the writer/director of two eBay spec ads which went on to win several festival awards, been the subject of numerous magazine articles and a screening at Cannes. Chandler has since been represented as a director by Playroom (a division of Giraldi) and Maysles Films. He has directed interactive and broadcast
commercials for clients including: Mitsubishi, Dominos, Honda, Hersheys, Ubisoft, Food Network, Lowes, Nick@Nite, Nintendo Wii, Remington, AOL, Spike TV, MTV Networks and the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation. He is also slated to direct two upcoming sketch comedy TV pilots.
As a cinematographer, Chandler has shot such luminaries as Keith Richards and Annie Leibowitz. His clients include The Oprah Winfrey Network, Comedy Central, MTV, Interscope Records, VEVO and Chiat Day, as well as numerous documentary projects including a soon to be released Bernard Madoff feature length documentary.
The short film version of the The Skisherman, Chandler’s ongoing feature documentary project about an extreme watersport and the characters who practice it in the waters off of Montauk NY, recently won the Documentary Competition at the Film Series at Cine Gear Expo at Paramount Studios in Los Angeles, an Honorable Mention at the LA International Film Festival and screenings at the Vancouver International Film Festival, Starz Denver International Film Festival and Big Bear Lake, Topanga Canyon and Coney Island Film Festivals.
